Salute to Veterans Airshow Takes Flight in Columbia
COLUMBIA - The Salute to Veterans Airshow kicked off Saturday Morning at Columbia Regional Airport. Mid-Missourians of all ages celebrated Memorial Day weekend by honoring local veterans and viewing historic military planes.
Craig Robinson brought his wife and two sons to experience the event he first attended 20 years ago.
"I came here as a boy when I was in Boy Scouts, and it was really fascinating," Robinson said. "We had a little bit better weather when I came."
Some air performances were canceled or altered because of the rain Saturday, but the Golden Knights army parachute jumpers and the Snow Birds were able to perform. Robinson said his family was still able to enjoy the event despite the bad weather.
"We've been here since early. We got wet, dried up, and we're back out here again," said Robinson. "We're really enjoying looking at some of the older planes and stuff like that."
Grounded planes were available for viewing and photos throughout the drizzle, along with food and souvenir booths.
The Airshow continues Sunday morning at 9:30 and wraps up at 3:30 p.m.
