One of the suggestions to improve Columbia and surrounding communities' economies was expanding and improving the Columbia Regional Airport. Earlier in the week a few business owners discussed the possibility of the airport renting out hanger space to private jet owners on a KFRU talk show. These jet owners could rent space during SEC game weekends. Airport officials told KOMU 8 that no spaces have been rented out so far.

Ward officials say they have come up with a few possible ways to fund the improvements at the airport. One option is the idea to increase bed tax at the city's hotels.
