Smart Decision 2012 Candidate Profile: Gubernatorial Candidate Fred Sauer
ST. LOUIS, Mo. - KOMU 8 News spoke with gubernatorial candidate Fred Sauer as part of our Smart Decision 2012 election series. A native of St. Louis, Sauer is a Republican candidate who hopes to face Governor Jay Nixon in the November election.
Sauer earned a B.A. in Economics at Yale University. He later served in the United States Navy during the Vietnam War as a line officer from 1969 to 1972.
Following the war, Sauer began working for McDonnell Douglas, but later left to work for a smaller real estate company.
Sauer has held positions including Republican Committeeman for Missouri River Township in 1976 and head of his parish's pro-life committee.
Throughout his campaign, he has advocated eliminating unlimited campaign contributions, citing them as a cause for corruption in the government.
He says the foundation of his campaign is to reestablish campaign limits, so "the citizens of Missouri can take back their government."
