COLUMBIA - A winter weather advisory is in effect for central Missouri. Snow is expected to hit the area near midnight and last through most of the morning on Thursday.

MODOT will begin treating roads in the southwest portion of the state and will continue through the night where necessary. High priority roads include interstates, U.S. highways, and other high traffic roadways.

MODOT is warning drivers to exercise caution on slick roads. The department suggests:

  • Wear a seatbelt.
  • Adjust your speeds for hazardous road conditions.
  • Use windshield wipers and headlights.
  • Double the distance between cars.
  • Use gentle pressure when accelerating.
  • Give snowplows plenty of room.
  • Watch for other drivers experiencing problems.
  • Don't pass vehicles on or near bridges.
  • Keep your gas tank half full.

Keep up to date on road conditions with MODOT and the City of Columbia.
