Stephens College Students Tackle 50 States in 50 Days
COLUMBIA - Two Stephens College film majors took to the highway this week for a 50 day journey. Madeline Carl and Meredith Jacob set a goal to travel across 50 states in 50 days.
The duo plans to document their trip and make the project into an independent documentary.
Their itinerary includes exploring attractions in the cities they visit, meeting new people and finding interesting businesses that illustrate the city's culture.
The 21-year-old college students said they hope to inspire viewers to pursue extravagant and short-term goals, following the motto of "just do it."
Carl acknowledges their project will be a challenge given their film experience but wants to motivate an audience of all ages.
"Age doesn't matter. It's the place you are in life," said Carl.
Carl also says the two women are expected to return to classes in the fall but wanted to pursue a goal they set together to visit all of the states.
"We're still learning things, and, of course, we're not amazing well-known filmmakers, but it doesn't matter. We are following our dreams, we're making this film, and it's important to know your goals. Set your goals, and go after them with all you have," Carl said.
The filmmakers raised more than $15,000 in donations for travel expenses and food. They keep followers of their journey updated with post and pictures on their Facebook page.
