Suspect on the run after Columbia home invasion
COLUMBIA - A suspect broke into a home on North Wade School Road in Columbia around 3 p.m.
The 24-year-old homeowner arrived and found the suspect inside his home. The victim said the suspect had a grayish handgun.
By the time officers and deputies arrived, the suspect got away. When the suspect fled, he used the back door and ran toward Akeman Bridge.
Boone County Sheriff's Department Detective Thomas P. O'Sullivan said the homeowner described the suspect as a tall white male weighing about 160 pounds, with dark hair, a ball cap, a baggy t-shirt, and blue jeans.
The victim reported a total of seven long guns and pistols stolen. A neighbor said his truck was stolen. BCSD said a shot may have been fired inside the home, but deputies cannot confirm.
"We had gotten some calls about some suspicious activity," O'Sullivan said. "I don't know if it's directly related to the burglary."
BCSD said this case is considered a first-degree burglary.
Police dogs could not track the suspect. As of Tuesday night, deputies continued to look for footprints.
