Tornado Does Not Stop Joplin Wedding
JOPLIN - Neelum Asma and Fasial Chaudhry tied the knot in Joplin Friday despite losing everything in the Joplin tornado. Family and friends from as far as Texas and California gathered at the Holiday Inn for the festivities. Wedding photographer Shyra Grantham said she was excited to hear the wedding was still going as planned.
"The wedding symbolizes how they are turning tragedy into a joyous occassion," Grantham said. "We can't stay down about this forever, we have to start rebuilding."
Irslan Shahid, cousin of the groom, said he doesn't see the wedding as a bad omen, but found it surprising the wedding moved forward since the tornado took away an important item.
"She lost her dress in the storm," he said.
Asma was able to find a replacement gown in time for the wedding she had planned for months. After the clean up, the newlyweds plan on moving to Texas to live closer to family.
