Two Arrested in Connection with Holts Summit Child Death

HOLTS SUMMIT - The Holts Summit Police Department announced Thursday it is investigating the death of a nine-month-old boy. Emergency dispatchers got the 911 call from 964 South Summit Drive, lot 10 Wednesday at 11:07 a.m. The caller said the infant was blue, not breathing and "beyond any help."

Emergency crews found the boy dead in a playpen inside the residence. Investigators with the police department questioned two adults who were at the residence. They told police the child was put to bed between 10 and 11 p.m.  According to investigators, the adults said when the boy was checked on around 11 a.m. the next morning, he was blue, lying on his back and not

The department said the adults admitted to using methamphetamines the previous day.  Investigators removed several needles and small bags of white and brown powdery substances from the home.  Those items have been sent to the state crime lab for testing. Police arrested the two adults and now they are currently being held at the Callaway County Jail.  They have yet to be formally charged.

There was another two-year-old child in the home who was put into protective custody by workers from Missouri Social Services.

The police department told KOMU it will hold a news conference Thursday at 5:30 p.m. in front of City Hall.
