COLUMBIA - The UM Presidential Search Committee will hold a public meeting at 6 p.m. Monday to discuss the candidates for the next UM President. Stephen Owens is currently the Interim President and has held the job since January 7, 2011.

"I anticipate this transition will be a smooth one," said Owens on January 7. "Thanks in large part to the talented colleagues who surround me in our system...and our four campuses."

Former UM System President Gary Forsee resigned because of his ailing wife Shelly who has cancer. The Board of Curators has taken the search very seriously. It's set aside $234,000 to search for the new president. This is taking place while the system makes nearly $4.4 million in cuts because of less state funds.
