Update - Pettis County Authorities Look for Cause of Deadly Fire
PETTIS COUNTY - Sheriff's deputies spent Tuesday taking pictures and video at the scene of a deadly house fire.
Pettis County Sheriff Kevin Bond said the department is conducting a death investigation after authorities found two bodies at the site of a house fire in the west central part of the county near Green Ridge on Monday.
The Green Ridge Fire Department was dispatched to a structure fire on Morton Road shortly after 9:30 a.m. Monday morning. Just before 1 p.m., Pettis County deputies and the Missouri State Fire Marshal were called to the scene where firefighters discovered a body. Authorities located a second body while searching the scene.
Sheriff's deputies are working with crime scene investigators from the Missouri State Highway Patrol and with the Missouri Fire Marshall to figure out the cause of the fires.
Deputies said that on Monday afternoon, the Pettis County Coroner's Office transported the victims to Columbia for autopsies scheduled on Tuesday to identify the victims and the cause of death. The coroner completed the autopsy, but the results have not yet been released.
