Description: Long-standing structures—whether a tavern, bank clock or opulent mansion—provide us with a sense of place. Since 1993, the City of Jefferson’s Historic Preservation Commission has recognized more than 100 such buildings and sites in the community with its honorary Landmark Award. Over the years, recipients have included government buildings, schools, retail stores, manufacturing sites, houses of worship, residences and even freestanding monuments. In the city’s older neighborhoods, several often stand in close proximity providing rich historical context. The Richmond Hill-Millbottom area near the Missouri State Capitol is one of these areas, with nine such structures located along just four walking blocks. Join us as former Jefferson City News Tribune reporter Michelle Brooks discusses several of the community’s most notable historic landmarks, with a special focus on the Richmond Hill-Millbottom properties near the Missouri State Archives’ Jefferson City location.
