I am the morning weathercaster for KOMU 8 News Today. Who would have thought that a little kid who was scared of lightning would become a weatherman? My family and friends still won't let me forget that. Yet this is a true testament of how far conquering your fears can take you!
Growing up in St. Louis, my childhood was filled with sports, mainly baseball and running. We would make trips into Mid-MO often -- to visit family, watch Dad race quads at Finger Lakes or go to the Lake for a weekend.
Before moving to Columbia to attend the University of Missouri, I was a landscaper, waking up early and working in that mid-summer heat. Strangely, I enjoyed it! I have a bit of a green thumb. Yet I felt gravitated toward studying the weather. Finally, I packed up my bags and moved to Columbia in hopes of becoming a lieutenant through the AFROTC program. When that didn't work out, I decided to give TV weather a try.
I started my weather career as an intern at KOMU 8 with Eric Aldrich in 2013. Two years later, I was asked to fill his shoes. That feeling of being offered your dream job, all I can say is, WOW! They say your dream job shouldn't feel like work. I must have found it then!
Random facts about me? I love to cook. My golf game is NOT good. Sorry, Jim. I will sit and watch every lap of a NASCAR race. I root for teams on both ends of the state, but my heart forever remains with my Cardinals.
