    COLUMBIA - The first of two trials involving a Columbia man begins with jury selection on Monday.

    Mehrdad Fotoohighiam, 64, faces charges of arson, attempted first-degree murder and conspiracy to commit first-degree murder. Monday's trial is over the arson charge; Fotoohighiam will be tried on the other charges at a later date.

    JEFFERSON CITY - Police are investigating two separate and unrelated incidents involving gunfire from Sunday night and early Monday.

    The first incident happened on Adams Street shortly before 10 p.m. Sunday, where police said a fight led to someone shooting a gun. No one was hurt and no property damage was reported.

    ST. LOUIS (AP) — Authorities say a 16-year-old aspiring football player has been killed and an 18-year-old wounded in a St. Louis shooting.

    The St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports that the shooting happened early Sunday in the Carr Square neighborhood in the northern part of the city. Family members say the slain teen was Jason Eberhart Jr. He is the 11th child or teenager fatally shot in St. Louis city this summer.

    COLUMBIA — One man was transported to University Hospital after a boating accident Saturday night. 

    Cody Vaughn, 22, was ejected from a boat after the driver lost steering control due to a mechanical failure, according to a Missouri State Highway patrol incident report. Vaughn was then struck by the boat's propeller.

    COLUMBIA — One dog got a helping hand from Jefferson City firefighters after it found itself in a sticky situation Sunday. 

    A blue tick heeler, named Scooby, got stuck in a 12 inch drainage pipe Sunday morning. Firefighters assisted Jefferson City Animal Control rescuing the dog.

    COLUMBIA - As the second year of its three-year action plan wraps up, Columbia's Vision Zero team will present its progress to City Council Monday night.

    The action plan was first put into place in 2017 after Columbia adopted the Vision Zero initiative in 2016.

    KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) — Two men with handguns in their waistbands alarmed shoppers when they entered a Kansas City-area Walmart, but police say they were just buying ammunition for target practice.

    Kansas City, Missouri, Police Sgt. Jake Becchina says the men were cooperative Sunday and were released because they hadn't violated Missouri law.

    The event was held at Elk's Lodge, where a current breast cancer patient Elizabeth Palmerstone works.

    COOPER COUNTY – The Missouri Department of Transportation will have crews working on Westbound Interstate 70 to replace concrete beginning Sunday.

    The work will happen between mile markers 98 and 101 from 6 p.m. to 6 a.m. each night.
