Police arrest suspect after standoff
Posted on 8 November 2018 at 11:47amCOLUMBIA - Columbia Police arrested a man after he barricaded himself in a home on the 700 block of Demaret Drive.
Dalton Dostaglou was wanted on the original charges of endangering the welfare of a child, domestic assault and narcotic violations. He's also been named as a suspect in recent thefts of firearms from local businesses.
According to police, Dostaglou stole from a local business around 3:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Officers tracked Dostaglou to the Super 8 hotel in the 5700 block of Freedom Dr. He fled from a second-story window of the hotel when officers tried to apprehend him.
Police later determined he was in a home on Demaret Drive. Officers surrounded the home and confirmed Dostaglou was inside with a handgun.
Officers told Dostaglou to exit the residence and he refused. Columbia Police SWAT was called to the scene and they entered the home. Dostaglou surrendered to officers without further resistance. A firearm was found in the residence.
Dostaglou was arrested on the outstanding parole absconder warrant with additional charges to be filed.
