Columbia plow crews ready for overnight weatherPosted on 16 February 2019 at 10:08pm
COLUMBIA - City plow crews are continuing to clear snow covered streets as they prepare for more winter weather overnight.
A crew of 21 people reported at 7 p.m. Saturday to continue plowing neighborhood streets, according to a news release. A 42-person crew will relieve them at 7 a.m.
Crews hoped to make all neighborhood streets passable for front-wheel drive vehicles Saturday evening.
The release said a glaze of less than a tenth of an inch of ice is possible overnight. Crews will transition their focus back to priority routes once snow and ice begin around 10 p.m.
The release said even though no significant icing is expected, drivers should still avoid travel unless "absolutely necessary."
Saturday night's shift is the fourth consecutive 12-hour shift of crews dispatched to pretreat roads.
