2 arrested in iPhone robbery
JEFFERSON CITY — Officers arrested two suspects Sunday night following a report of an armed robbery.
Jefferson City police arrested Kane Carpenter, 17, and Robert Scott, 19, after getting a call from a man who claimed his iPhone and electronic cigarette were stolen.
The caller, whose name has not been released, said he was walking near the intersection of Capital Avenue and Lafayette Street when two men approached him, asking to borrow his cell phone.
When he refused the request, the caller said, he was threatened by one of the men, who implied he had a gun, forcing him to turn over the phone and cigarette.
Officers said the victim was able to describe the two suspects. After a quick search, police spotted Carpenter and Scott, who matched the description, at the nearby intersection of Cherry Street and Commercial Way.
Police arrested both Carpenter and Scott on suspicion of first degree robbery, and and also accused Carpenter of armed criminal action.
Police said they found the missing iPhone, but no weapon.
Carpenter and Scott were taken to the Cole County Jail.
