21-year-old MU student to run for Columbia City Council
COLUMBIA - Andrew Hutchinson, a 21-year-old senior at the University of Missouri, has announced he will run for the First Ward Columbia City Council seat in April.
According to his campaign, his main focus is on "improving infrastructure and affordable housing in the first ward, facilitating a community relationship with local police and providing representation for marginalized community members who may otherwise feel ignored by local elected officials."
Hutchinson is the co-founder of "One Mic", an organization which has helped raise funds for a number of national issues, including the Dakota Pipeline protests.
Hutchinson will oppose Clyde Ruffin, the current first ward City Council member, who has said he will seek re-election. The first ward vote will be included on Columbia's April 4 ballot.
