LADUE, Mo. (AP) - Three people have died in a head-on crash on a suburban St. Louis road.

Police say the accident happened at 8:50 p.m. Friday in Ladue when the driver of a Ford Focus attempted to pass another car. Instead, the Focus crashed into a Volkswagen Jetta.

Police say the driver of the Focus, 25-year-old Kyle Weeks of Olivette, and the driver of the Jetta, 46-year-old Melanie Michailidis of St. Louis, died at the scene.

Forty-one-year-old Joseph Jacob, of San Francisco, was taken to a hospital where he later was pronounced dead. The St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports that he was a passenger in the Jetta.

Police shut down the road where the crash happened for seven hours to investigate.
