4-H Teaches Judging Skills
The 4-H club held an event to teach members how to judge horses they've never seen before. They participated in a clinic, then used what they learned to judge a horse in front of a panel that judged their new skills. Organizers say the clinic teaches participants a variety of useful lessons that they'll use throughout their lives.
"Kids get the foundation of the basic judging principle. 'How do I make a decision?' and then of course I added that we have them stand up and explain that to a judge so they formalize it," said organizer Ben Gallub.
An award-winning collegiate horse judging team from northern Oklahoma taught the kids about what to say. The team also served as the panel of judges.
