A New Look For an Abandoned Building
JEFFERSON CITY - The Old Town Revitalization Company is renovating an abandoned building on Atchison Street. The former Homer Cavitte property has been abandoned for more than 10 years. The renovated building will be used as a community center.
Reconstruction to the outer part of the building is already underway. The building has a new roof and the windows have been ordered. The building should be completed by this fall.
"It has good bones; which means it's structurally sound. We feel that the neighborhood would really like to have it. It's kind of a neighborhood piece and we'd like to restore it," said Melva Fast, Assistant to City Administrator.
Fast says they are hoping the reconstruction of the building will encourage other home owners in the area to fix up their properties.
