Ameren Asks Regulators for 14.7 Percent Rate Increase
ST. LOUIS (AP) - In a proposal filed Friday, Ameren requested regulators raise electric rates by 14.6 percent, or $376 million. The increase would add about $14 per month to customers' average monthly electric bill.
Ameren said the higher rate is necessary for reimbursement of infrastructure upgrades, higher fuel costs and environmental improvements. Some of those improvements go toward increasing reliability, which Ameren says is its customers' top priority.
The Missouri Public Service Commission approved a seven percent rate increase for Ameren about six months ago. The company says regulatory review of the increase proposal could last until December.
