An Athlete Enjoying Life One Stride at a Time

"I'm still at the point where I tell people I want to finish and not puke," she said.

Her friends think it's insane, but for Lisa it's the perfect birthday present. Two years ago she tore her A.C.L. doctors told her she might never run again.

"My first surgeon basically said I was too overweight, I was too old, I was too female. I'm stubborn so I thought to myself, I'm going to show him," she added.

Stroke by stroke and stride by stride, the surgery changed the course of her life.

"Coincidently I was going through a very bad divorce and when you go through something that emotionally difficult and for me it was very painful, I looked at what was available to me, what were my options. I could wallow I could say, 'wow life is treating me very poorly and I'm going to go eat worms or I can change,'" she decided.

Lisa dropped 25 pounds and has already finished 3 triathalons.

At what point did she decide to start competing?

"At the point where you are clinically certifyably insane," she answered.

Crazy enough to do the unthinkable.

"Anything a person can do that can give me a sense of achievement and fulfillment that this gives you is a gift," she added.

A gift the birthday girl is excited to celebrate.

Lisa's next triatholon is in October when she and several other members of the Columbia Multisports Club travel to Las Vegas!
