Angelou to Speak at Missouri
COLUMBIA(AP) - St. Louis native and acclaimed poet Maya Angelou will speak at the University of Missouri on Thursday night. The 83-year-old author of "I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings" was raised in St. Louis and Arkansas before embarking on a 60-year career as a poet, novelist, actress, filmmaker and civil rights activist.
She now teaches at Wake Forest University in North Carolina.
Angelou is scheduled to speak at 7 p.m. Thursday at Jesse Auditorium on the Columbia campus.
