Arrest made in shots fired on September 27
COLUMBIA — Vice Narcotics and Organized Crime Detectives arrested Mariquan Midgyett, 18, of Columbia, Tuesday evening in connection to a shots fired incident on Sept. 27.
Columbia officers were dispatched to a shots fired call in the 1500 block of Raleigh Drive on Sept. 27. They discovered three separate homes had been struck by bullets.
Detectives were able to establish on Oct. 15 that Midgyett was in possession of a handgun and was in the area of the shots fired on Sept. 27. They then applied for a warrant in his name him for unlawful use of weapons felony.
Midgyett was located on Tuesday. He ran from officers with something in his hand, which was later determined to be a handgun. Midgyett was arrested in the backyard of a residence in the 8010 block of Quick Sand Circle without any incident.
Officers say they arrested Midgyett on suspicion of an armed criminal action and unlawful use of weapons felony, a misdemeanor warrant for failure to appear for theft and an unlawful use of weapons felony.
Editor's Note: This story has been changed to correct information relating to the charges against Midgyett. An earlier version falsely stated that detectives charged Midgyett with a misdemeanor and two felonies. Officers arrested Midgyett on suspicion of these crimes.
An earlier version of this story also stated that three residents were struck by bullets during the incident on Sept. 27. Three homes were struck, not three residents.
