Arts Group Plans to Renovate Maryville Theater
MARYVILLE (AP) - A theater group has started an effort to renovate a neglected historic theater in downtown Maryville that was damaged by two storms this year.
An early summer storm damaged the roof of the Rose Theater, allowing it to leak onto the lower floor. And in August, a hail and wind storm shattered 16 upstairs windows.
The Nodaway Community Theater Company currently owns the downstairs performance space of the building. Nina Dewhirst, a member of the group, says it plans to buy the rest of the building.
The Maryville Daily Forum reports that the group hopes to have the building renovated by 2020, the sesquicentennial of the building, which was built in 1870.
