Audit says District Misspent $1.2 million
BALLWIN, Mo. - A state audit has found that the Rockwood School District in St. Louis County overpaid a construction management company by more than $1.2 million over the last 10 years.
The audit was released Wednesday. The Rockwood board issued an apology for what it called "mistakes in the past."
The St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports that the audit concludes that the district essentially paid Glenn Construction Co. twice for some work related to bond projects.Steve Smith, a Glenn Construction employee, was a Rockwood board member. The Post-Dispatch previously reported on Rockwood's exclusive relationship with Glenn Construction for district bond issue construction management contracts. A taxpayer group sought the audit after the newspaper report.
State Auditor Tom Schweich is recommending that the district attempt to collect any overpaid fees.
