Audrain hosts open house for new senior mental health unit
MEXICO - An Audrain County hospital held a public open house Monday for its new 20-bed inpatient Behavioral Health Senior Care Unit.
The newly renovated unit at SSM Health St. Mary’s Hospital – Audrain will provide patients access to staff specially trained to work with seniors in serious psychiatric crisis and care for individuals with mental disorders.
Open house attendees could take a tour, meet staff and learn about symptoms and treatment options for mental health disorders.
Hospital president Donna Jacobs said it is excited to offer new critical services.
“Not only will this provide critical mental health services to seniors in this area, but it also brings additional employment opportunities for our community.”
SSM Health invested $1.8 million in this project, which will bring more than 30 new positions to the hospital, including a recreational therapist, social workers, case managers and nursing staff.
