Basketball Playing Youth May Get Courts
There were four proposals being considered:
- A permanent structure for the Columbia Farmers' Market
- A sports complex for the Columbia Youth Basketball Association
- A meeting and sports facility
- Boone Ice Group proposed an ice rink, but that idea has now been withdrawn.
CYBA brought kids, parents and coaches to promote their proposal.
"Any positive effect you can have on kids is always a good thing for them, and for me. It's been proven time and time again that children participation in extr curricular activities such as sports tends to have a positive effect on them in the classroom as well," Wendell Coonce, CYBA.
The catch is, CYBA has to come up with four million dollars to cover its portion of the costs. The farmers market also got the nod, but it has to raise more than half a million dollars to have a permanant home. CYBA has two years to get the money for its facility. It will share than lot with the farmers' market if both have successful fundraising efforts.
