Beck Bows Out
Ray Beck is retiring after 20 years as Columbia's top official, so the city held a farewell party for him Thursday.
But, Beck says, it not time yet for him to relax, so he'll keep busy by volunteering and possibly teaching.
"It's a great day for my family particularly," he said. "This will give me a little more time to spend with my family. And it's been a great journey, as far as I'm concerned, working in local government, trying to help other people."
Beck will have another goodbye party Friday, when he expects about 500 Columbia residents to attend.
