Bikers from Around the Nation Prepare to Gear Up for Columbia
BOONE COUNTY - The Boone County Fair wraps up at the end of the month just in time for a new party to roll in. The National Bikers Roundup brings more than 35,000 bikers from around the nation to a different city each year for a week long party. This year, Columbia will be hosting the bikers from August 3 to August 8.
August 3 is Tuesday but doors don't open at the fairgrounds until 9:00 A.M. and the Boone County Sherrif's Department along with the Columbia Police Department are expecting serious traffic congestion Monday as bikers ride in. Hotels are booked up all over Mid-Missouri from Moberly to Columbia for the week.
Police say local residents should expect additional officers patroling traffic and heightened security.
"It won't just be up and around the fairgrounds because these folks are going to want to come in town too so especially thinking about the morning commute, the lunchtime and especially the evening commute, in the evening time houirs planning some extra time to get to where you're going," says Officer Jessie Haden.
