Bikes Selling Fast
Karl Kimbler has worked on bikes on and off for 18 years. But he says he's never experienced such an increase in sales and repairs since the oil crisis of 1973.
"I had no idea I would sell so many bikes as quickly as I have," Kimble said.
And he is not alone. Even though colder weather is right around the corner, business is brisk at extreme cycle.
"We're still selling a number of bicycles that we may not have captured in previous falls," Tom Brinker of Extreme Cycle said.
The U.S. Chamber of Commerce says more bicycles have been sold than cars over the past 12 months. With gas prices still well over $2, some people are finding other modes of transportation, including bike shop owners.
"My commute is a couple of miles. I ride every single day that I can," Kimble said.
And he's helping others get in habit that 87 million other Americans share.
Nineeten million bikes were sold in the U.S. last year.
