Blue Jays Split Doubleheader

FULTON -- The Westminster College softball squad split a non-conference doubleheader with Wartburg College Friday night to open an eight-game home stand against Iowa Intercollegiate Athletic Conference teams. Wartburg (4-12) won the opener 7-2 and Westminster (5-3) captured the nightcap 7-1.

The Blue Jays managed just two runs on six hits in the opener with sophomore Lori Jones going 2-for-4 with a run scored. Junior Morgan Shipley went 1-for-4 with an RBI. Sophomore Sarah Schneider took the loss on the mound, giving up seven runs and just two earned runs on six hits and six walks while striking out 11 batters.

Westminster scored seven runs on 12 hits in capturing the nightcap. Jones, freshman Molly Adler and sophomore Rai'an Harris recorded two hits each. Junior Talisha Washington recorded two hits and drove in a pair of runs. Sophomore Brittany Lee got the win, allowing one run on five hits, three walks while recording eight strike outs.

The Blue Jays face Buena Vista University Saturday, Coe College Sunday and Simpson College Tuesday.
