Blue Note begins the new year with new ideas
COLUMBIA - The Blue Note starts the new year with new ideas and ownership. Wednesday at 7 p.m., the Blue Note will host its grand re-Opening.
Co-owner Matt Gerding said the club wants to introduce dance party ideas and theme nights such as Wednesday night's New Year's party Deca Dance, celebrating 100 years of music. A local DJ will play 1920's hot jazz and then run through the decades through the top dance hits of 2014.
Gerding said, "We really wanted to maintain a classic kind of, you know, theater feel to it which is, you know, what the Blue Note is. It's a classic old vaudeville theater, a little bit of a modern flair to it."
The club has completely re-branded the venue with a record player logo, Gerding said.
"We are new owners. We did a pretty extensive remodel both here and Mojos, he said.
Updates to the Blue Note include:
- Under lights and lights
- Band area
- Sound system (coming soon)
He said he hopes to book a variety of artists.
"We do what the people of Columbia will support and so we will book everything from folk music and jam bands to heavy metal to hip hop and rock and all kinds of music for diverse music and culture," Gerding said. "The programming at the venue will be similar to the past. Live music will always be our bread and butter".
The Blue Note will now be available for private events, including weddings.
