Blues fall 5-2 to Buffalo
Buffalo NY- The St. Louis Blues losing streak increases to three games in a row after a 5-2 loss to the Sabres in Buffalo. This is the first time the Blues have lost three consecutive games in regulation since November 2018.
The first period rocketed off with the Sabres Sam Reinhart quickly giving the hosts the lead just 18 seconds into the game. His goals were assisted by Victor Olofsson Brandon Montour.
The Blues struck back later in the period via Troy Brouwer, his goals assisted by Ivan Barbashev and Robert Thomas. Brouwer's goal tied the game at one after period one.
Period two slowed down but the Sabres edged back in front late. Johan Larsson scored his third goal this season. The assists provided by Zach Bogosian and Jimmy Vesey.
The goal scoring ramped up in the third period. The Blues tied things up at two when Alex Pietrangelo smashed the puck into the Sabres net after a great passes by Tyler Bozak and David Perron. With this goal, Pietrangelo passed the 100 career goal mark putting him second on the all time list for goals by a Blues defenseman.
Buffalo quickly took back a 3-2 lead however when Jack Eichel scored. Assists by Victor Olofsson and Sam Reinhart.
The Blues pulled their goalie with a minute left, but it only allowed Buffalo to score two more via Zemgus Girgensons and Jack Eichel grabbing his second. Buffalo finished with a 5-2 home win.
The Blues will look to reverse this downward trend when they return to St. Louis to face the Las Vegas Golden Knights on Thursday, face off at 7.
