Blues take first matchup against Minnesota
ST. LOUIS - The St. Louis Blues defeated the Minnesota Wild, 2-1 on Wednesday in their first matchup this season.
The Blues were missing their star forward, Vladimir Tarasenko, who is on a five month recovery from his shoulder surgery on Tuesday. Despite his absence, St. Louis dominated on the ice.
There were no goals scored until the second period, when two Blues set Sammy Blais up with a shot to put the team ahead 1-0.
Their lead didn't last. Less than two minutes later, Mats Zuccarello slid one in for the Wild to tie the game.
The rest of the second period was quiet, but St. Louis came onto the ice hot for the third. Alex Pietrangelo drove in a goal in the second minute to put the Blues ahead 2-1.
That would be the final score thanks to St. Louis goalie, Jordan Binnington's, 11 saves following the goal.
The Blues will host the Columbus Blue Jackets on Friday before traveling to Minnesota to play game two against the Wild.
