Blunt Shoots Down 'Guns for Teachers' Idea
Teachers at Jefferson City High School said packing pistols won't eliminate classroom violence.
"I just think that guns are the last thing we should allow in the building," said Charlotte Middleton. "I just think it's going to make things worse, not better."
Added Greg Wieberg, "It's not why I'm in the profession. It's not why I chose to be a teacher, to be a law enforcement officer or a crowd controller. I'm here to educate."
Jefferson City High already has an armed officer and at least a dozen security cameras, although teachers admitted there's no absolute safety guarantee.
"These things that are happening in our country, in our schools, can happen anywhere," said Wieberg. "So I can't say I feel 100% safe, because I really don't."
Teachers said Jefferson City High will add more security cameras next summer.
