Body of Missing Climber Found on Grand Teton
JACKSON, Wyo. (AP) - Authorities at Grand Teton National Park say a Missouri man fell about 2,500 feet to his death while climbing the Grand Teton.
The body of 45-year-old Don Ivie of Springfield was found Monday, a day after he failed to return from a solo climb of the peak.
Ivie began climbing at 1:45 a.m. Sunday and his wife reported him missing after he failed to return by late evening as expected. Because nightfall was approaching, rangers began looking for him on foot Monday morning.
After dense clouds and heavy rain lifted, a search helicopter was launched. Its crew spotted Ivie in Valhalla Canyon in the afternoon.
Rangers say Ivie didn't have much technical climbing experience. They're investigating his death but say the circumstances may never be known since he was climbing alone.
