Boeing Delivers First Production EA-18G Growler
BERKELEY (AP) - The first production of Boeing's EA-18G Growler airborne electronic attack aircraft is delivered today in suburban St. Louis. It is just the first plane of 85 that will be delivered to the Navy as part of a nine billion dollar contract. Instead of carrying missiles or cannons, the Growler carries advanced radar jamming equipment. It will escort bomber planes and help disrupt enemy air defenses. The first two EA-18G Growlers are supposed to be deployed by 2010 and replace the carrier-based Prowler squadrons by 2013. The job is expected to eventually be taken over by unmanned planes.
