"The positions that we're looking for, customer service, we're looking for warehouse positions, we're looking for management positions, and we actually have a couple of intern positions for the summer as well with our industrial engineering department," Scholastic Manager Terry Donner said.
Scholastic managers interviewed applicants on the spot, some even went home with good news.
"Basically, I was here looking for a job, fortunately I got hired, I start in a few weeks, the job offers great benefits," job applicant Christopher Wilbourn said.
Benefits include a 401K, tuition reimbursement, paid sick leave, comprehensive medical and dental insurance, access to an employee bookstore, and an onsite wellness center.
"Once somebody's here 90 days, they stay forever. We have people here, we'll celebrate our 40th anniversary this next year, and we have I think 14 people that will be celebrating their 40th anniversary with us," Donna Deetz from Scholastic Inc. said.
Scholastic Inc. is the world's largest publisher and distributor of children's books. Scholastic sometimes ships a million books a day, and with the fall coming up, their busiest season, they're going to need a lot of workers. Business at Scholastic is growing thanks to classic favorites like Clifford the Big Red Dog and popular new books like the Harry Potter series. While that means more books are being shipped across the country, it also means economic growth in Jefferson City's backyard. Scholastic is looking for full time, part time, and seasonal employees.
