Boone County Fire Protection District builds new fire station
COLUMBIA - The construction of a new Boone County Fire Protection District station starts this week.
The new Station 16 building will be located on Route HH, near the Sun Valley Estates subdivision in Columbia.
Gale Blomenkamp, the assistant chief of the Boone County Fire District, said Station 5 in Prathersville is the busiest fire station in Boone County. On average, it runs three to four calls a day and almost a hundred calls a month. Station 16 is expected to decrease the number of calls to the station in Prathersville.
"I think the biggest benefit is gonna be our customer service, our ability to respond more quickly to increase the area of call volume for the fire district," Blomenkamp said.
Blomenkamp said Station 16 is part of the large project from a 2014 bond issue, which is about $14 million, and the construction will cost more than $1.3 million.
The construction will be finished by next year.
