Boone County Gears Up for Another Year of Fair Fun
BOONE COUNTY - The fair hadn't even officially started yet, but the Central Missouri Event Center, home of the Boone County Fair, was already filled with kids, animals and family fun Monday afternoon.
While crews have been setting up for the Boone County Fair, which officially begins Tuesday, pre-fair events brought many people out to the fairgrounds early. A parade on Monday evening had people lining the main road to watch and wave as trailers, floats and last year's Boone County royalty drove past.
Children and adults crowded under a tent to stay out of the heat and enjoy some family fun event like a watermelon eating contest, three-legged races and more. Animals were also on display as children showcased their calves and lambs for the judges.
Tracy Mulligan, Event Coordinator for the Boone County Fair, said this year's fair will feature some changes from last year. Those include triple the number of vendors, a bigger carnival and concerts every night featuring local bands. The Almost Kiss cover band will play Friday night.
"We have a new illusionist act show that will be here for all week and then we'll have one for Saturday and Sunday in the main building. We have a car show Saturday afternoon which is new for us this year and we're real excited to have," Mulligan added.
Mulligan also said the weather looks like it will be much better than last year when temperatures were in the 100s, and she has high hopes for the fair this year.
"We're just genuinely excited, as always, to have the Boone County Fair. We get to see so many people, and get families here. It's just a community-oriented event, and we're just generally excited about it," said Mulligan.
