Boone County highway pursuit leads to arrest, drug bust
COLUMBIA - The Boone County Sheriff's Department said Friday it arrested a man after chasing him through Columbia, and Boone and Callaway counties.
Deputies said they arrested Lewis Cloven after a highway pursuit around 1:15 a.m. Friday.
The department said deputies discovered marijuana, methamphetamine, drug paraphernalia and about $3,000 in cash.
Deputies said the chase started after they saw Cloven speeding on a motorcycle eastbound in the area of Broadway and Broadway Bluffs Drive and he refused to yield. The pursuit continued on highway WW into Callaway County, when Cloven eventually crashed near State Route J and Highway 40, deputies said.
Cloven ran on foot before being caught, deputies said, and there was a brief struggle before he was taken into custody.
Cloven faces the following charges:
- Possession of a controlled substance with intent to distribute
- Felony resisting arrest
- Driving while suspended
- Careless and imprudent driving
- Unlawful use of drug paraphernalia
- Failure to register motor vehicle
