Boone Hospital, Stephens College partnering to develop nursing program
COLUMBIA - Boone Hospital and Stephens College announced a new partnership Wednesday, aimed at developing a nursing program.
“Stephens College is proud to work alongside Boone Hospital, our neighbor, to help fulfill a need in our community,” said Dr. Dianne Lynch, president of Stephens College, in a news release. “As the oldest higher education institute in Columbia, we have a long history of providing creative and innovative academic programs that reflect the needs of their time.”
Stephens currently has a Master of Physician Assistant Studies program, and has graduated two classes. The accelerated three-year nursing program will help students earn a Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree.
“We want to provide these students with an immersive experience,” said Monica Smith, vice president of patient services and chief nursing officer of Boone Hospital Center, in the release. “They will get to learn the nursing profession in a real-world environment alongside some of the best nurses in the world. When they graduate, we hope that this experience has them prepared to enter the workforce with confidence and conviction.”
