BOONVILLE - Unlimited Opportunities Inc. (UOI) had its groundbreaking ceremony for its new building Wednesday after disaster struck the old building more than a year ago.

A fire destroyed the old building in Feb. 2012 after an employee started the furnace in the paper recycling area of the building.

Derrick Breshears, 34, works at UOI and is excited the agency is getting a new building.

"It's a wonderful day. He has talked about this for months," said Elaine Breshears, Derrick's mother.

The ceremony kicked off the construction of a new building which is expected to be completed next year.

Lynn Kellner, a spokesman for UOI said planning for the new building took fire safety into concern.

"We're going to sprinkled all throughout the building. The old building did not have that," said Kellner.

The new building will house several services, including a resale store, individual and family support programs, and a recycling center. It will also feature a memorial and honor wall, where people can purchase engraved bricks to honor a person, accomplishment or memorable occasion. Money raised from brick purchases will go to helping fund UOI programs.

UOI provides services to youth and adults with disabilities. Services continued after the building was destroyed, operating from three temporary locations In Boonville.
