But at the Big Brothers Big Sisters "Bowl for Kids Sake" nobody was counting, well at least most people weren't.
"Her score was 56 and mine was 61," said Maria.
This year the group's goal was to raise $30,000.
"It's one of their biggest fundraisers and they have a lot of supporters locally," said Malone.
The group pairs adult mentors with kids to help them reach their potential.
"Being with her and teaching her the ways of making right choices in the world and while she's in school," said Malone.
After bowling, Maria thinks about how she can improve her game.
"I could have got all strikes!" said Maria.
Malone's still proud of Maria's score and she's happy that she can be a kid at heart.
"Teenagers like that kind of stuff and so do we. Adults never grow out of it," said Malone.
The Missouri Valley Big Brothers Big Sisters has paired up 125 kids with adult mentors.
