Boys and Girls Club celebrates $25,000 donation
COLUMBIA - Columbia's Boys and Girls Club will receive a $25,000 donation from U.S. Cellular to provide children with science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) opportunities.
Over the past three years the company has donated more than $60,000 to the local Boys and Girls Club. The donations will help students in kindergarten through 12th grade.
Executive Director Valorie Livingston said the organization receive money from outside sources in order to stay up and running.
"As a non-profit, partnerships help the organization not only survive, but thrive," Livingston said. "And provide opportunities to the kids with new programs and enhanced programs."
Before the celebration begin U.S. Cellular associates will help with landscaping work.
Livingston said the company will give out gifts to the children.
"They are also bringing a surprise for the kids," Livingston said. "None of the kids know about what they're about to get tomorrow."
The Boys and Girls Club Missouri Steppers will perform at the celebration, and U.S. Cellular associates will bring ice cream and cake for the children.
