BOONE COUNTY - A manhunt was underway as of 2 p.m. Tuesday as Boone County Sheriff's Department and Columbia Police searched for two suspects in a neighborhood break-in.

Boone County Sheriff's Department and Columbia Police Department K9 Unit responded to a call on North Lakeland Drive Tuesday afternoon.

Deputy Micah Boyd said two black men broke into a home through a back window and back door, confronted a house guest in the living room, then fled through the front door on foot.

Officers and deputies searched for the suspects in a nearby wooded area until the K9 lost track of the scent. Columbia Police Sergeant Scott Hedrick said he believes the men got into a car on a nearby street after running through the woods.

The homeowner said his house guest described the suspects as two black men in their late teens or early twenties. He said one wore his hair in a ponytail while the other wore his hair in braids. Other than a broken window, the homeowner said his house guest was unharmed and no items were stolen.

A neighbor said he saw two black men matching the house guest's description walking through the neighborhood 10 minutes before officers arrived. He said he did not recognize the men from the neighborhood.

The investigation is on-going.
