Bridge Project Delayed Following Death of Worker
ST. CHARLES (AP) - Work on the Blanchette Bridge at St. Charles is temporarily on hold while counselors help workers who are grieving the loss of a colleague.
The St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports that the worker killed in an accident on Monday has been identified as 51-year-old Patrick Bray of Jerseyville, Ill.
A spokeswoman for the Missouri Department of Transportation says it is unclear when work will resume on the span that carries Interstate 70 over the Missouri River.
Bray was working Monday on a barge downstream from the bridge. He was employed by Walsh Construction Co. Walsh said in a statement that Bray was struck by a 55-gallon drum during work connected to the bridge rehabilitation project.
