Buffalo Area Sustains Heavy Damage
BUFFALO - A tornado that swept through southwest Missouri hit outside Buffalo, killing one person and injuring about a dozen others.
Jason Wendlandt, director of Dallas County Emergency Management, said the worst of the damage early Wednesday is around a mobile home park two miles south of Buffalo, where one resident was reported killed.
He said at least half of the homes in the area were destroyed, and that about 13 people sought medical care.
Wendlandt said cars at the mobile home park are flipped over and homes have been completely flattened, with pieces "thrown everywhere." He also said utility crews are working to restore power to the town of about 3,000 located northeast of Springfield and that area schools are closed.
Wendlandt said the identity of the victim hasn't been released.
