Businesses Give Job Opportunities to Veterans
COLUMBIA - Some big businesses are making the job hunt easier for veterans. The Home Depot has implemented an option on its site called the Military Skills Translator Tool. When veterans visit the site, they can enter their military experience and are matched with potential job titles that would complement their military skills at Home Depot stores.
Sean Johnson is a veteran and currently an employee at Home Depot. Johnson says with opportunities like this, it is easier for veterans to transition back into civilian life. "Job security is huge for veterans. They don't have to worry about providing for their families or providing for themselves," Johnson said.
Walmart has also created opportunities for veterans, promising to hire any veteran who was honorably discharged within 12 months of their completed duties.
